Project Support

Funding

The project is being made possible thanks to a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR).  Dr Daniel Stubbs, NIHR Advanced Fellow, (NIHR304395) is funded by the NIHR for this research project. The views expressed in this publication are those of the author(s) and not necessarily those of the NIHR, NHS or the UK Department of Health and Social Care.

Further details about the award and the project are available on the NIHR website.

Support from national organisations

We will only be able to make this a success thanks to the support and advice of major national organisations that care for patients with chronic subdural haematoma.  These include:

  • The British Geriatric Society (BGS)
  • The Centre for Perioperative Care (CPOC)
  • The Neuroanaesthesia and Critical Care Society (NACCS)
  • The Society for British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS)

Resident Doctor Research Networks

Support from resident doctor research networks in Anaesthesia, Medicine for Older People, and Neurosurgery are supporting our data collection efforts.  For further see details see: 'Interested in Taking Part?'

Patient and Public Involvement

We're aiming to understand and improve care for patients and drive equitable access to surgery for cSDH and other specialist surgeries.  We have benefited hugely from the input of our patient and carer representatives to our governance panel and the feedback of the RCOA PCPIE panel as well as the East of England Neurosurgical Network Patient Voice Panel.

Royal College of Anaesthetists Centre for Research and Improvement

The project is supported and endorsed by the RCOA Centre for Research and Improvement which has run national registry and quality improvement studies in multiple surgical specialties.  Support via the RCOA CR&I Fellowship Scheme has been instrumental in bringing the project to realisation.

Study Sponsors

The study is jointly sponsored by Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the University of Cambridge.  We are very grateful to both organisations for their support in study development and regulatory oversight.  The hosting of an RCOA CR&I fellow by Cambridge University Hospitals as well as local anaesthetic fellows based in the University of Cambridge has been a vital resource in study development and ongoing work.
